Are You a Deputized Special Agent?

In their duties nationwide, the United States Marshals Service (USMS) frequently utilizes its authority to deputize state and local law enforcement officers to assist in federal operations. When serving in a federal capacity, Deputized Special Agents and Task Force Officers are exposed to the same types of allegations and lawsuits as Federal Special Agents, which generally arise out of an operational event that results in injury, death, safety concerns, public alarm, oversight or a security vulnerability or breach. This exposure increases when there is media attention, social media scrutiny, and/or special interest group or political involvement. Without proper protection in place, it is cost prohibitive for Task Force Officers and Deputized Special Agents to defend against a decision, action or inaction – even if you are ultimately vindicated.

FEDS Protection fully understands the unique circumstances that only officers who deal with potentially dangerous individuals can truly appreciate, and the environment which makes even the best officers vulnerable to allegations and lawsuits. As a proponent of the greater law enforcement community, FEDS is thrilled to announce that Deputized Special Agents are now eligible for the very same FEDS Protection professional liability insurance (PLI) policy as federal law enforcement officers–at the very same price.

Deputized Special Agents and Task Force Officers can protect themselves against investigations with a FEDS Protection PLI policy. FEDS Protection offers policies with $1 million or $2 million in civil liability protection for attorney’s fees and indemnity costs in the event you are sued in your civil capacity. Our policy also includes $200,000 of legal representation coverage per incident for administrative actions and $100,000 of coverage for criminal defense costs. Annual premiums for FEDS Protection PLI start at $290, which is less than it would typically cost to hire a federal employment lawyer for an hour. Additionally, federal law enforcement officers are eligible for a reimbursement of up to 50% of the cost of their PLI policy through their agency.
