At Department of Justice, President Trump Slams Opponents in Campaign Style Speech
In a Friday speech at the Department of Justice (DOJ), President Trump went on a campaign-style monologue, disparaging his political opponents and promising to end the “weaponization” of DOJ.
The speech was billed as an address on law and order and there was some mention of illegal immigration and crime.
But the president quickly went on offense and held nothing back. He labeled the Department under former President Biden, the Department of “Injustice” and vowed to clean up the “hacks and radicals” in the U.S, government who are “eroding trust.
"We're turning the page on four long years of corruption, weaponization and surrender to violent criminals, and we're restoring fair, equal and impartial justice under the constitutional rule of law," said President Trump.
President Trump also boasted that he stripped security clearances from some of the prosecutors and law enforcement agents who investigated him including Special Counsel Jack Smith, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
The president also praised U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who dismissed the case against him, and went after the judges in three of his other cases saying, “It’s not even imaginable how corrupt they were.”
He also declared that he would keep the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) headquarters in downtown Washington, DC, even though Congress has approved the building of a new FBI headquarters in Maryland.
Other topics brought up include men's college basketball coach Bobby Knight, inflation, the Russia-Ukraine war, the Israel-Hamas war, and the 2020 election.
Democrats React
Democrats said the President is the one who is breaking the law.
"Restoring law and order starts with respecting the Rule of Law itself and the sacredness of our Constitution," said Representative Grace Meng (D-NY). "This administration has failed to do so since day one."
