CBP Launches New Careers Website Amid Migrant Surge

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is making a new push to hire more workers into the agency, with the launch of its new career website.

The goal is to provide better recruitment and engagement experiences for workers considering a career with CBP.

“Our new careers website makes applying for jobs at CBP easier and more efficient.  There are numerous job opportunities for those looking to join our ranks,” said CBP Acting Deputy Commissioner Pete Flores in a news release.

The new website careers.cbp.gov outlines career paths across the agency, with breakdowns of the mission of each subagency, including U.S. Border Patrol, Air and Marine Operations, Office of Field Operations, and more.

Enhancements to the career’s website include:

·         A dropdown feature to help visitors find opportunities that match personal experiences and interests.

·         Allowing users to connect with a recruiter on every page.

·         A new chat bot.

·         A revamped frequently asked questions (FAQs) page on the CBP hiring process.

·         A simplified survey to allow visitors to provide feedback on their experience.

“The new careers website leverages best practices and technology to highlight the wide range of opportunities available at CBP through a user-centric experience,” said CBP Assistant Commissioner of Human Resources Andrea Bright. “We want those interested in joining CBP to learn about our dynamic mission and our diverse workforce.”

CBP Juggles Migrant Surge

The need for workers is acute, as CBP juggles a record number of illegal crossings and as policymakers weigh changes to border policy.

CBP reportedly had over 300,000 encounters will illegal migrants in December, which is a monthly record.

The surge in migrants has forced CBP to shuffle personnel to hot zones, open and close some border crossings, and take other actions to protect the border.

“We continue to assess security situations, adjust our operational plans, and deploy resources to maximize enforcement efforts against those noncitizens who do not use lawful pathways or processes - such as scheduling an appointment via CBP One - and those without a legal basis to remain in the United States,” CBP said in a statement.
