Charges Filed Against Coast Guard Lieutenant Named as a Domestic Terrorist
A joint venture by the Coast Guard Investigative Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the Department of Justice has resulted in the arrest of a Coast Guard Lieutenant for domestic terrorism. According to the court documents, the lieutenant, Christopher Paul Hasson, harbored extremist views and was planning “to murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country.”
According to a court report, Hasson is a white supremacist.
On the defendant’s computer, investigators found drafted and deleted emails from 2017 with plans to attack those who promote the liberalist/globalist ideology which Hasson claims “is destroying traditional peoples esp white.” Hasson writes that these people will “will die as will the traitors who actively work toward our demise. Looking to Russia with hopeful eyes or any land that despises the west’s liberalism.”
In another letter to a neo-Nazi leader, Hasson identifies himself as “as a White Nationalist for over 30 years and advocated for “focused violence” in order to establish a white homeland.”
When federal authorities executed a search warrant on Hasson’s property agents found fifteen firearms and over 1,000 rounds of mixed ammunition.
Agents also found a hit list of prominent Democratic Congressional leaders, activists, political organizations, and MSNBC and CNN media personalities. Among the individuals on the list were House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, CNN host Don Lemon, MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, and others.
The same day the list was made, Jan. 17, 2019, the defendant googled, “what if trump illegally impeached”, “best place in dc to see congress people”, “where in dc to [sic] congress live”, “civil war if trump impeached”, and “social democrats usa”.
Federal agents also found possible steroids on the defendant.
Federal agents also learned that Hasson looked to a manifesto written by Anders Breivik, a far-right, anti-Muslim Norwegian nationalist who was convicted in 2012 of two terror attacks that killed 77 people, for guidance on how to plan his attacks.
The federal prosecutors recommended Hasson be detained while pending trial.
