Ex-USA Gymnastics Doctor had 37k Child Porn Images, Says FBI
During a search at his Michigan property, the FBI found at least 37,000 images and videos of child pornography on Larry Nassar’s hard drives, plus videos of the former Michigan State University doctor sexually assaulting girls under the age of 12, according to an agent who testified in federal court in Grand Rapids.
While executing a search warrant, law enforcement found the hard drives in a garbage can on Nassar’s property, special agent Rod Charles testified during a detention hearing for Nassar.
According to the indictment unsealed Friday, Nassar, 53, is charged with two child pornography counts in federal court stemming from the “thousands of images of child pornography” Nassar collected during a 14-year stretch.
Until he was fired in September, Nassar was the team physiciam for USA Gymnastics.
Nassar appeared in court Wednesday afternoon for several hearings. Federal Magistrate Judge Ray Kent said Nassar was the "worst" kind of danger to the community, and ordered him held without bond.
Nassar faces five to 40 years in prison, and up to lifetime supervision upon release, if convicted on the federal charges. He could face up to life in prison if convicted on the three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a person younger than 13 that Ingham County brought against him last month.
State and local law enforcement officials said about 50 women have come forward since this summer with allegations that Nassar sexually assaulted them, some saying it occurred during medical procedures, reports USA Today. The wave of allegations came after The Indianapolis Star detailed sexual assault allegations against Nassar by two women.
