Former DEA Agent Gets Probation for Strip Club Lies

An ex-agent at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was sentenced to one year of probation and community service after being convicted of lying about his New Jersey strip club last year.

David Polos, 52, faced up to six months in prison for lying during a national security background check about operating his strip club with another DEA employee.

David Polos wept and asked for forgiveness from his family and former DEA colleagues when he appeared in federal court in Manhattan on Wednesday. Among his misdeeds was having an affair with a Brazilian dancer who was in the country illegally, reports USA Today.

“I stand before you today a man disgraced, an outcast in my own profession,” Polos said before hearing his punishment. “The only thing I can do is apologize.”.

At his trial last June, the jury found Polos guilty for concealing his managerial role at the Twins Plus Go-Go Lounge strip club where prosecutors say there was evidence of prostitution.

Jurors also convicted Polos for lying about his extramarital affair with a Brazilian dancer who prosecutors said entered the United States illegally.

At the sentencing Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Paul G. Gardephe called Polos’ behavior “truly shocking” for a decorated agent who rose to sensitive supervisory positions at the DEA during at 23-year career there.

“All sentencings are sad and some are sadder than others, and this falls into that category,” the judge said.
