Improving Design Standards Across Government

With the introduction of the U.S. Web Design Standards and similar initiatives, federal agencies are putting a greater emphasis than ever on creating the best digital versions of themselves. Yet the designers responsible for creating these experiences have felt like individual islands with little connection to counterparts at other agencies.

That is, until DotGov Design was founded in 2013. Recognizing the need for a community where federal designers can collaborate, swap ideas, and help each other become better designers, a few designers created DotGov Design.

DotGov Design is an organization for anyone from federal employees and contractors, to advocates engaged or interested in designing for government. The organization is facilitated by AIGA DC, the professional association for design, and led by federal designers volunteering off hours.

Three federal graphic designers and DotGov Design committee leaders, Mollie Bates, Jen Ehlers, and Ashleigh Axios join hosts Julie Perkins and Brionne Griffin of Shaw Bransford & Roth to discuss how they are leading the charge to improve design standards and connect federal designers throughout the government.
