Jared Fogle to Spend 15 Years in Federal Prison
A guilty plea got ex-Subway spokesman Jared Fogle 15 years and eight months in federal prison, according to the Associated Press. Fogle’s attorneys argued his sexual addiction was brought on by his famous weight loss.
An expert witness in federal court in Indianapolis on Thursday to argued that Fogle should be shown leniency after pleading guilty to child sex abuse charges because he was stricken by sex addiction after addressing his food addiction via his famous weight loss.
The judge in Fogle's case did not see it that way, sentencing him to three years more than the 12 years and 6 months prosecutors asked for.
Fogle admitted to having possessed child pornography and having paid for sex with minors in his guilty plea. He then agreed to avoid pornography, get sexual disorder treatment, and be a registered sex offender. U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt also sentenced him to a lifetime of supervision and a $175,000 fine.
Before his sentencing, Fogle delivered a statement in which he apologized for his actions, the Star reported.
Fogle’s voice cracked and he sobbed as he said, “Not a day will go by when I don’t think about what I did to (the victims).”
“Members of my family are also victims of my acts,” he said before noting that his wife will be a single mother.
“You gave your wife $7 million, so she’ll be OK,” the judge said, interrupting.
