New Training Announced for Federal Hybrid Workforce

For many government and private-sector organizations, a hybrid schedule has become the schedule of choice in the post-pandemic environment. But hybrid working, where workers work in the office some days and at home other days, has its challenges and not all workers are adapting easily.

To address those issues, the government is now offering free training for federal employees. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced the government wide “Thriving in a Hybrid Environment” training last week.

There will be twelve training sessions around the country and six virtual sessions. The first session will be offered April 19 in Washington, DC. OPM will also post sessions on their YouTube channel.

“These government-wide trainings will equip the Federal workforce with tools and skills they can immediately use to improve performance and efficiency when serving in hybrid work environments,” said OPM Director Kiran Ahuja.

The trainings will focus on best practices for hybrid working and will also include content from both literature and field-based research in the following areas:

  • Understanding the Hybrid Environment

  • Effective Performance Management in a Hybrid Environment

  • Hybrid Norms, Processes, and Protocol for Individuals and Teams

  • Tracked Results to Support Performance Accomplishments

  • OPM’s Hybrid Leadership Model: Leadership Traits in a Hybrid Environment

The training program is part of the President’s Management Agency Workforce Priority focused on Strengthening and Empowering the Federal Workforce. OPM says training a hybrid federal workforce will enable the “[f]ederal workforce to thrive in the workplace of the future.”

OPM previously released the Hybrid Work Environment Toolkit, which gave initial guidance on implementing hybrid work once workers started returning to the office.

Topics discussed in the toolkit include flexible hours, employee wellness, and tips for managing employees when they’re on a hybrid schedule.
