Night of Drinking led to Theft of FBI Supervisor’s Glock, Rolex

A supervisor in FBI’s counterterrorism unit is the subject of an internal investigation after a night of drinking led to the theft of his gun, his Rolex, and cash from his hotel room.

According to documents and government officials, Robert Manson, a unit chief in the FBI’s international terrorism section, was staying at a Westin hotel in Charlotte, N.C. this summer when his Glock .40-caliber handgun was stolen, a $6,000 Rolex watch and $60 in cash, according to a police report.

Manson and other senior agents were in Charlotte for training when they went out drinking with women who they said were exotic dancers, reports the New York Times.

“Investigators determined that the victim, Robert Manson, met a woman in the hotel bar the prior night and took her back to his hotel room,” Robert Tufano, a spokesman for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, said in a statement.

According to the Times, Manson was incapacitated from drinking alcohol and a fellow agent, Kevin Thurman, reported the theft to the police. In the police report, the theft is noted as occurring sometime between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. since the hotel bar closes at 2 p.m.

In the police report, the gun was identified as a Glock 27, a compact model that is easy to conceal. While agents are allowed to carry concealed weapons while off duty, this permission does not apply when agents are intoxicated.

No arrests have been made and police officers have not recovered the weapon.
