Secret Service Agent on Pence’s Detail Suspended after Prostitution Arrest
A Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President Mike Pence’s detail was reportedly suspended after meeting up with a prostitute at a Maryland hotel.
The Secret Service agent had to surrender all equipment and was placed on administrative leave, according to a spokesman from the Secret Service. The agent’s security clearance was also suspended along with access to all Secret Service facilities.
The Maryland hotel manager where the agent allegedly met the prostitute placed a call to authorities after becoming suspicious of activity in one of the rooms, CNN reported. One law enforcement source told CNN the agent was caught after police saw him exiting the hotel.
The agent was arrested and charged with solicitation. He later self-reported his arrest to the Secret Service.
“The Secret Service takes allegations of criminal activity very seriously,” the spokesman said in the statement. The incident is being investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility, he said.
“The Secret Service is committed to ensuring that all employees are held to the highest level of professional and ethical standards of conduct,” the statement said.
